Touring the Tiffin Factory: A Memorable Behind‑the‑Scenes Experience

We recently had the opportunity to tour the BHE factory, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable visits we’ve made to any RV manufacturer. The facility itself is enormous — a true production powerhouse — but what stood out even more was the craftsmanship and the people behind the work.

One of the highlights of the day was meeting Bob, the founder of the company. At 83 years old, he’s still sharp, energetic, and genuinely enjoyable to talk with. Bob shared a bit of his story, including how he went to college for just two weeks before telling his father that it wasn’t the path for him. That decision ultimately led him to build the company we were standing in decades later.

What really made Bob unforgettable was how personal he made the experience. As he guided the group, he asked everyone where they were from. No matter the answer, he always seemed to know someone from that area — a friend, a customer, a supplier. It was clear he’s spent a lifetime building relationships, not just coaches.

Inside the factory, we were able to watch the entire coach‑building process from start to finish. The scale of the operation is impressive, but the craftsmanship is what truly stands out. The cabinet shop alone was remarkable — rows of skilled workers shaping, sanding, and assembling cabinetry with a level of precision that speaks to years of experience and pride in their work.

Seeing the coaches come together step by step gave us a deeper appreciation for the attention to detail that goes into every unit. From framing to wiring to cabinetry, each stage reflected a commitment to quality that’s hard to capture unless you see it firsthand.

Overall, the visit was more than just a tour — it was a look into the heart of a company built on craftsmanship, relationships, and decades of passion.
